CARS Birthday Cake

My son, Mack, turned one yesterday. So today we had his birthday party and we went ahead and did a CARS theme. Which is actually funny to me because we had a birthday party for Lucy when she turned one, but it didn't have a theme. Anyway- I wanted to make his cake, and I wanted to feel like it went with the theme, so here is my version of a CARS birthday cake. :)

It is pretty simple, so I don't think I really need to explain, but I will just in case anyone is wondering. Also, if I had had more time... and the proper tools- it would have looked much better, but I thought it turned out great all tings considered!

I made one round cake, I don't know the dimension I'm sorry- but I think an 8" pan and I made 12 cupcakes. After they were cooled I frosted the center in green frosting (which is actually white frosting with gel dye in it) to make the grass and then frosted the cupcakes with chocolate frosting to make the road. I had some gel frosting and I thought it would be cool to add some dimension to the "grass" but I didn't have any attachments so I made do with an ill fitted one, and that's what happened how I made the grass. Then I wanted to add the lines to the road, but once again had no tip, so I was forced to go without and that is why the lines are so thick. To finish it off I added a candle and 2 brand new CARS that came in a packaged deal with the movie we got for him. I didn't do anything to cover the wheels so I just had to spend a couple minutes wiping them down afterwards, it really wasn't bad. That being said- I think they added the perfect touch to the cake, and though my son didn't care at the time, the older boys at the party thought it was pretty great. If you make one like this, even if you make it a million times better I'd love to see!
